Black Excellence Awards

AWARD DESCRIPTIONS

Submissions Deadline: Friday, February 17th at 11:59pm

New Student of the Year (2) – A Black/African Heritage freshman or transfer student who is actively involved in the community, has participated in community service, as well as has demonstrated leadership. This student serves as a role model for their peers based upon their academic achievement and continued success.

The Boost Award (2) –  A Black/African Heritage student who has demonstrated continued academic improvement and achievement since their freshman year. As well as, this student has grown and developed into a young dynamic leader at George Mason University.

Social Action & Awareness Award (2) – A Black/African Heritage student who continues to be a voice for their community by being socially aware and socially active. This student has also been involved with intentional programming and initiatives at Mason.

Leadership Development Award (2) – A Black/African Heritage student who has taken the time to mentor and develop the leadership skills and capabilities of other students at Mason.

MVP Award (2) – A Black/African Heritage student-athlete who has not only been excelling with their commitment to Mason Athletics and their respective sport but has also been involved in non-athletic organizations.

Friend & Ally Award (1) – A student who has supported the Black/African Heritage Community at Mason and taken risks to ensure that the black voices are heard and acknowledged by the greater Mason Community.

Black Scholar of the Year (2) – A Black/African Heritage student who has notable academic achievement, has been a driving force in their community whether through involvement or service. This student has demonstrated a high level of leadership and continues to give selflessly to his community and Mason at large.

Distinguished Alumni Award (1)  An active alum who continuously supports the students of the black community through service and mentorship.

Pillar Award (1) – A faculty/staff member who has supported the students of the Black/African Heritage Community by making a priceless investment and putting in endless time and effort to ensure that Black/African Heritage students are achieving academic success and have the foundation needed to be great after college.
